The country's largest public sector bank State Bank of India (SBI) has asked its customers to replace their Magnetic Strip ATM cum debit card with an EMV chip based card before December 31. In order to protect customers from fraud with card fraud, the Reserve Bank of India has asked banks to issue only chip based and PIN enabled debit and credit cards.
Chip card prevents fraud: EMV chip card protects against fraud by creating a duplicate card. The EMPV card and PIN facility protects customers from being cheated by making fraud and duplicate associated with card lost and stolen.
SBI said in its tweet that 'Dear customer is time for this change. According to RBI guidelines, you need to replace your Magistrade Debit Card with an EMV Chip Debit Card by the end of 2018. You do not have to pay any charges for this. "By the end of June, SBI has issued 28.9 million ATM co-debit cards, most of which are chip-based cards. Some other banks are also replacing the magistrates card with an EMV card.
Use this way to keep the card safe
Do not try ATM cards on different machines that are not working.
